Cats are supposed to be the small ones in the house. Most housecats top out around 12 pounds, which is roughly one arm’s worth of animal.
Then there’s Winston.
In a TikTok from the account @thegoodhype, Winston — a gray Maine Coon — gets picked up by his dad, and the man’s arms disappear. Hands, forearms, all of it, buried under cat. The on-screen text reads: “What my giant cat looks like next to his siblings.”
The siblings are where it stops being funny and starts being absurd.
He Made a Great Dane Look Normal
First Winston nuzzles up against a black Great Dane. A Great Dane reaches roughly 32 inches tall and about 160 pounds at adulthood. Standing beside Winston, the Dane looks like a regular dog you’d pass at the park.
Next comes a white Husky, and Winston holds his own. Then the family’s black cat, who Winston towers over like a separate species. Then the Beagle, who Winston appears to outsize completely.
He ends the video curled up against the Great Dane, entirely unbothered, as Parade Pets reported.
The Comments Section Did Not Recover
The replies went exactly where you’d expect:
- “Excuse me. That’s a straight-up Snow Leopard.”
- “I’ve never seen a cat make a Great Dane look small before.”
- “What does their meow sound like? Small caps or all caps?”
An earlier clip from the same account pulled 2.2 million views and 374,300 likes, according to Newsweek’s coverage, with one viewer writing: “That’s not a cat, that’s a baby lion.” The caption on that one read, “He has no idea how big he is either and he’s the sweetest cat!”
That’s the line Maine Coon owners recognize instantly. The cat has no concept of his own footprint. He will still attempt your lap. He will still try to sit on the keyboard. He will still wedge himself into the cardboard box that stopped fitting him eighteen months ago.
Winston Isn’t Fat. He’s Built That Way.
Worth saying, because someone in every comment section says it: a large Maine Coon is not the same thing as an overweight cat.
Male Maine Coons routinely reach around 25 pounds and females about 18. They stand 10 to 16 inches tall and can stretch up to three feet long, while most other breeds measure 10 to 20 inches nose to tail. That’s skeleton, not surplus.
They also take their time getting there. The International Cat Association notes the Maine Coon doesn’t reach full maturity until around four years old — meaning owners spend years watching a cat that should have finished growing keep on growing.
If you want to know where your own cat actually lands, the Cornell Feline Health Center recommends the rib check: run both palms flat along the ribcage. On a cat at a healthy weight you should feel ribs under a thin layer of covering. On an obese cat, they vanish. Cornell puts feline obesity at roughly 20 percent or more above normal body weight — a different problem entirely from a cat who is simply long.
Nobody Has Told Him
The household Winston lives in has 10 dogs and five rescues in total, which explains a great deal about his confidence.
When your roommates are Great Danes and Huskies, you don’t grow up thinking of yourself as large. You grow up thinking of yourself as one of the guys.
That’s the joke the internet keeps arriving at. Winston isn’t performing. He believes he is an ordinary cat in an ordinary house, sized like everyone else, and no one has corrected him.
No one is going to.
